Scheffler's Perfect 54 Hole Show Stuns PGA Champions
After nearly missing the cut, Scottie Scheffler surged in the third round of the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH — Scottie Scheffler isn't done. The two-time past champion at The Players Championship, the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Scheffler displayed flashes of the form that lifted him to the summit of the golf world with a bogey-free 67 in the March 14 third round.
"I was a little sharper today than I was the first two days," Scheffler said. "I felt like I was swinging it better each day of the tournament. Today hit a few more fairways and was able to give myself a few more looks for birdie.
" Scheffler made birdie at Nos. 2, 5, 6, 12 and the Island Green on 17 to improve to 4-under for the tournament. That's still a long way from the top of the leaderboard — when he entered the clubhouse shortly after 1:30 p.
m. , he stood eight strokes behind leader Ludvig Åberg — but it's a long way from Scheffler's first two rounds on The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. His opening 72-73 had left him perilously close to the cut line.
