RBS women suffer narrow loss on return home 0-1 defeat to Austria Vienna FC Red Bull Salzburg Women 0-1 FK Austria Vienna; (H/T:0-1). Goal: Triendl (39') Our FC Red Bull Salzburg women pushed league leaders FK Austria Vienna all the way, but an avoidable goal conceded just before half-time proved to be the difference as they lost their 2026 home opener. Match summary The league leaders, who are comfortably in first place, visited our fifth-placed team but there was no noticing the gap in the table at the start.
While the visitors dominated possession – creating half-chances through Cordes and Wenninger – our attacks, though less frequent, were more incisive. First, Julia Grünwald headed the ball over from a promising position after a corner, then Sara Grabovac narrowly missed the target during a solo run. That the ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga leaders from Vienna still went into the break with a lead was entirely our fault.
As we tried to build-up from the back, a Hamzic ball across to goalkeeper Lara Ritter was too weak, Triendl capitalised, intercepted the pass, and finished (39th minute) – to make it 0-1 at half-time. Our team continued to play with energy after the restart, but only sporadically found ways to break down the strong Violet defence – Julia Grünwald and Sophia Schirmbrand, with a double chance after a clever corner, were the exceptions. Instead, the visitors dictated the play, with Cordes firing over the crossbar from distance, for Austria's best opportunity in an otherwise uneventful second half.
Since our team couldn't mount a late attacking salvo, we had to accept defeat in our 2026 home opener. Views I am so proud as that was a truly even match! We showed against the best team in Austria that we are competitive.
