New Headline: Former NFL Attorney Discloses Severely Flawed Bid for High-Stakes Contract
The Tennessee Titans have been active in free agency, and one ex-NFL agent breaks down some of the contractual moves.
General manager Mike Borgonzi has been busy this offseason as he meticulously rebuilds the Tennessee Titans , and the exciting thing is that he appears to have a plan and is implementing it. While there is still a lot to be done, the Titans are making moves and catching the eyes of those outside of the organization, who are taking notice of what the team is doing. Count Joel Corry of CBS Sports as one of those, as he mentions the Titans a few times in his early contract takeaways from the opening week of free agency.
Spending spree The Titans have spent nearly $295 million in free agency. The biggest contracts went to defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and cornerback Alonte Taylor. Franklin-Myers signed a three-year, $63 million deal averaging $21 million per year with $42 million in guarantees.
Taylor signed a three-year, $60 million contract averaging $20 million per year with $42 million fully guaranteed. Robinson received a four-year, $70 million contract worth up to $78 million through incentives with $38 million fully guaranteed. Borgonzi has done a good job this offseason of mixing in high-dollar signings with strategic depth signings that should help Tennessee in both the short and long term.
The Titans entered the offseason with the most salary cap space in the league and appear to be on track to use it to help reset the organization's floor. Familiarity breeds comfort A strong tie or positive experience between a player and coach or team executive has led to some reunions during the offseason. This has been especially true with the Titans.
