Alexandra Popp will join third-tier side Borussia Dortmund on a three-year contract in the summer, bringing an end to her 14-year stay at Wolfsburg. Popp, 34, enjoyed a trophy-laden tenure with Wolfsburg, winning the Champions League three times alongside seven Frauen-Bundesliga titles. The forward will leave the top-tier club when her contract expires in the summer, she announced on her social media on Saturday, sat surrounded by her medals.

“My heart beats for this club,” Popp said, per a statement on Dortmund’s website . “I am slowly coming towards the end of my career and I also have to listen to my body. I didn’t want to miss the timing and the chance to play in the BVB jersey.

“The interest of the BVB made me proud from the first moment, I immediately had a big grin on my face. For me it is very exciting to be able to develop the path so far so successful in the future. ” Popp has continued to be a regular in Wolfsburg’s starting XI this season, recording 10 goals and four assists in 15 league matches.

She was a key member of the Wolfsburg sides that won seven German titles in 10 years between 2012 and 2022.
