Oak Hills Dominates Semifinal with Stunning Performance!
Here's a roundup of varsity sports action for March 13 in the High Desert, including Oak Hills and Sultana beginning the MRL baseball season.
Oak Hills sent an early message in the Mojave River League title race Friday. The Bulldogs jumped out to a five-run first inning and rode a grand slam from Jacob Webster to a 12-8 victory over defending league champion Sultana in the MRL opener for both teams. Oak Hills finished third in the league last season, while Sultana claimed the title.
Oak Hills wasted little time taking control. Seth Marcil highlighted the five-run first inning with a two-run double that scored Kelvin Lackey and Manuel Berumen Jr. Sultana cut into the deficit in the third inning when LJ Borrego blasted a solo home run.
The Bulldogs broke the game open in the sixth inning when Webster launched a grand slam during a five-run frame. Manuel Berumen Jr. later added a run-scoring double.
Oak Hills stretched the lead to 12-3 in the seventh on an RBI double by Ayden Cooper. Sultana rallied in its final at-bat. Borrego drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs and Conrad Munoz followed with another walk to make it a four-run game and bring the tying run to the plate.
