The Vikings may not be done fixing their quarterback room this offseason.
The Minnesota Vikings are holding a quarterback competition this training camp and preseason as they work toward Week 1. The former tenth overall pick by the franchise, J. J.
McCarthy, and the recent signing and former number one overall pick, Kyler Murray. This combo creates a unique situation for the team as they can seemingly recreate something we saw take place in Indianapolis a year ago. The team could essentially do what the Indianapolis Colts did last training camp, bringing in Daniel Jones to compete with a young quarterback, Anthony Richardson Sr.
Eventually, Jones won the job and flourished; now the Vikings hope that whoever wins the race can do the same for them. But they still need a veteran presence behind these two. The Athletic's Alec Lewis discussed the possibility of the team adding one in a recent piece.
Specifically, he named the favorite to be Carson Wentz due to him being in the system last year. He writes, "Carson Wentz, who played 300 snaps for the Vikings in 2025, would be the likeliest candidate. There is familiarity and mutual interest between the two sides.
