Scheib won five of the nine giant slaloms and came second in two others to become the first Austrian since Eva Maria Brehm in 2016 to win the discipline globe. "It feels very special.
Winning a globe has been my aim for many years. To be so consistent is not so easy. I don't know what to say, this is amazing," Scheib said.
Scheib moved 189 points ahead of Rast with one race left and only 100 points available at the upcoming season ender in Norway. Shiffrin meanwhile was on course towards first place in the first run before a huge mistake brought her almost to a standstill four gates from the finish. But she recovered from 12th place to finish fifth, right behind German rival Emma Aicher who celebrated her best career result in giant slalom.
