CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - MARCH 13: Thijs de Ridder #28 of the Virginia Cavaliers rebounds the ball against Shelton Henderson #7 of the Miami Hurricanes in the second half during the semifinals of the men's ACC Tournament at Spectrum Center on March 13, 2026 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ugonna Onyenso, who was outstanding against NC State, and who has already set the tournament record for blocked shots with 12, had another big night for the Wahoos.
Onyenso blocked 4 shots here after getting 8 against State, shot 8-9, and finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Miami shot just 20% from behind the line and 37% overall. Virginia, on the other hand, hit 42% from deep and 53% overall.
Thijs De Ridder had 16, Malik Thomas 15, and Chase Mallory 12. Virginia’s bench is also far deeper than Duke’s: nine guys got double-digit minutes. Saturday night is going to be a real tussle.
Duke has shown a willingness to reach for greatness, but is missing two key players in Caleb Foster and Pat Ngongba, both out with foot injuries. Even so, the Blue Devils played very well against Clemson. We’ll see what they can do against the Cavaliers.
In other ACC news, as noted Friday, Jeff Capel will keep his job for another year at least and Adrian Autry is out at Syracuse. Boston College and Georgia Tech are both shopping as well, but there doesn’t appear to be any movement at either school yet. In some not-surprising news, Moustapha Diop, a 4-star center, has asked for his release from Georgia Tech.
