Goedert's contract was set to void earlier this week, but the Eagles and the veteran tight end have extended that deadline , which leaves the door open for him to stay. However, if he doesn't stay, the Eagles will have a gaping hole at tight end that would have to be filled. In that scenario, Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut predicts the Eagles will sign veteran tight end and former Pro Bowler, David Njoku.
Here's what Johnson said about Njoku to the Eagles: The Philadelphia Eagles bought themselves a little more time to decide on Dallas Goedertโs future with the club, but a split still seems to be the likeliest outcome. What became evident last season is that this offense needs more help at tight end, so that should come both via the NFL Draft and free agency. After spending nine years in Cleveland, Njoku likely wants to play for a Super Bowl contender with a quarterback he trusts to get him the football.
With defenses focused on stopping Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and A. J. Brown, all while having to account for Jalen Hurtsโ athleticism, Njoku could have plenty of open looks in Philadelphia.
