Insiders Show Pittsburgh's 'Seville Sweep' Pro Bowl Safety Leads to Explosive 12-Defensive Game Plan
The Steelers have quietly been winning free agency with the flashy moves but we really love the addition of defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have quietly won the offseason through one week of free agency thanks to several big signings and a huge trade. But instead of talking about the additions of guys like wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and cornerback Jamel Dean, we are going to hand out our grade for Pittsburgh's Friday addition of defensive Sebastian Joseph-Day.
The Steelers currently have four defensive linemen who are free agents. Isaiahh Loudermilk, Derek Lowry, Daniel Ekuale and Jacob Slade are all free agents and none have has any real interest on the open market. The four of them combined for only 156 total snaps and the lack of talent on the defensive line reserves put a ton of pressure on the top four guys.
The addition of Joseph-Day gives the Steelers an ideal No. 4/No. 5 defensive lineman who can line up inside and outside.
He's going to be a great teammate to Cameron Heyward on the edge to spell the future Hall of Famer but just as comfortable lining up inside next to Keeanu Benton where he can win with strength and leverage. We don't think the addition of Joseph-Day finishes the work along the defensive line and we still want to see Pittsburgh explore a legitimate replacement for Heyward in the 2026 NFL draft. But for 2026, the Steelers defensive line is better now than the group that finished last season thanks to the addition of Joseph-Day and for that, we give this signing an A.
