Embry-Riddle Women’s Basketball Surpasses Expectations in Championship Quest!
Embry-Riddle's women's basketball season came to an end Friday with an NCAA Tournament loss to Eckerd.
Embry-Riddle bumped into a familiar foe in the first round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. Eckerd (24-6), which won the Sunshine State Conference regular-season title, ended the Eagles’ campaign with an 85-69 victory on March 13 in Huntsville, Alabama. As a result, the third-seeded Tritons claimed the season series with sixth-seeded ERAU 2-1.
This was Embry-Riddle’s third straight trip to the Division II big dance. It finished the year with a 22-7 record. After the first quarter, the Eagles led 16-13.
But Eckerd rattled off the first 15 points of the second quarter to jump ahead for good. It entered halftime up 38-27. After three quarters, its lead sat at 62-46.
The Tritons featured two 20-point scorers. Ieva Korzane put up 30 points, and Emma Egan added 23 points and 11 rebounds. Eckerd converted 50% of its shots from the field and 42.
