Here’s how we think Hansi Flick will line up his troops for Sunday’s battle: Defense Flick has a tricky decision to make as the coach needs to rest bodies for the Champions League game against Newcastle while also picking a strong team for this one.
Predicting Sunday’s lineup is really hard given all the absences and possible changes, so here’s our best guess. We think there will be a surprise name in the XI as 18-year-old right-back Xavi Espart had a short but impressive cameo on his senior debut against Newcastle, and we think Flick will give the Catalan Philipp Lahm a chance to make his first start in front of the home crowd. Ronald Araujo is expected to be rested with Newcastle in mind, so Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martín will likely retain their spots at center-back and João Cancelo will start again on the left.
Midfield Marc Bernal and Pedri are both expected to be left out of the lineup with Newcastle in mind, but there is good news as Eric Garcia is back in training after missing the trip to England. We think he’ll start in midfield in this one alongside Marc Casadó in the double pivot, with Fermín López likely to get the nod in the number 10 role to make sure Dani Olmo is 100% ready to start on Wednesday. Attack Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski are expected to be rested in this one as well, so this will be a big chance for Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres to play a part on Sunday.
Lamine Yamal could also benefit from a rest, but we think the teenager will start and hopefully be replaced in the second half if Barça get out to a strong start and clinch the win early. Possible XI : Joan; Espart, Cubarsí, Martín, Cancelo; Eric, Casadó; Yamal, Fermín, Rashford; Ferran (4-2-3-1) How do you think Barcelona should line up against Sevilla?
