For the first time in program history, the Ballard Bombers are Iowa high school basketball state champions. In the Class 3A finals on Friday, March 13, the Bombers outpaced ADM in a 43-39 overtime thriller at Casey's Center in downtown Des Moines. In a gritty, defensive affair, Ballard won off the heroics of senior Jude Gibson, who hit a pair of free throws to tie the game with 0.

2 seconds left in regulation and another pair in overtime to ice the game. Gibson ended his high school career with a 14-point outing, as well as five assists and three steals. The team's leading scorer was Parker Miller, who recorded 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Tigers put up a valiant effort, with seniors Trey Bryte (14) and Hudson Lorensen (11) combining for 25 of ADM's 39 points. Bryte also had 17 rebounds and five steals. Both defenses shined in the game, with Ballard shooting just 31.

9% to ADM's 30. 6%. Defense was king in the opening eight minutes, with Ballard taking a 9-8 lead into the second.
