Can the Gophers bounce back and find their Pre-Olympic Mojo?

The Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s hockey team has been in a bit of disarray since their four stars returned from the Olympic games. Minnesota dropped their WCHA First Round opener 1-0 to St. Cloud State before battling back to win the next two.

They faced recent nemesis Ohio State in the WCHA Semifinals and never really showed up falling 4-0 to the eventual WCHA Champion Buckeyes. But there are no more gimmies. There are no more cushions.

The Gophers will host the Northeastern Huskies at 2 PM Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena with the winner advancing to the Frozen Four and the loser seeing their season come to a close. The Gophers did not look good in their lone game last week falling to the Buckeyes 4-0. Minnesota only picked up 22 shots on goal in the game and never fully tested Ohio State goalie Hailey MacLeod.

Minnesota has been shutout in two of the four games since Abbey Murphy, Josefin Bouveng, Naeeli Laitinen and Teresa Plosova returned from the Olympics, and have looked a shell of the team that was averaging 5. 6 goals per game before they left. That must chance if the Gophers do not want to see their season end on Saturday.
