Chad Jones' Defensive Stand Ends Buccaneers' Season
The Indianapolis Colts continue to add to the safety position, signing a former Dallas Cowboys free agent defensive back.
In a matter of minutes on Friday, the Indianapolis Colts made two additions at the safety position. It was first reported by ESPN that the team was signing veteran Jonathan Owens . Now Jordan Schultz is reporting that the Colts are signing former Cowboys' safety Juanyeh Thomas.
The contract details for Thomas have not yet been reported. Colts sign free agent S Juanyeh Thomas Thomas went undrafted in 2022 out of Georgia Tech and has spent his first four NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. During that span, he has played 549 defensive snaps, 264 of which came last season.
He has mostly played free safety. Thomas' missed tackle rate is relatively high, according to PFF , but in coverage, he's held opponents to 8. 5 yards per catch on 13 completions and has four pass breakups.
Thomas could provide the Colts with added special teams help, having played 724 snaps over just three seasons. He's contributed to five of the six different phases. Even with the additions of Thomas and Owens, the question of who will start next to Cam Bynum still exists.
