As the 2026 Alabama high school track and field season gets rolling, standout performances are already expected from athletes across the Tuscaloosa area . Programs opened practice Feb. 2 before moving into competition when meets began Feb.
19. The postseason begins with section meets scheduled for April 24-25. Athletes who advance will compete at the AHSAA State Track and Field Championships, set for April 30 through May 2 in Gulf Shores, with additional championship competition taking place May 1-2 in Cullman.
Below are the Tuscaloosa-area nominees for our preseason track and field player of the year. Nominees were selected by area coaches from our preseason players to watch list. Fans can vote in the poll, which will remain open until noon Thursday, March 19.
2026 Tuscaloosa News preseason track and field player of the year nominees American Christian's Levi Fowler (junior, boys track) Why: Fowler finished as the Class 4A-5A indoor state runner-up in both the 60 meters and the 400 meters. American Christian's Jennifer Grey (sophomore, girls track) Why: Grey competes in the sprint and mid-distance events. Bibb County's KenTerryon Carr (senior, boys track) Why: Carr finished last season ranked among the top 50 across all classifications in the 100 meters and 63rd overall in the 200 meters.
